Project type: Client
Team: Art director, producer, project manager, front-end developer and artworker
Sprint time: Two weeks

Project summary

Problem

Help Sky employees understand the impact of piracy and what they can do to help fight it.

Process

Let's face it, anti-piracy policies, in general, are not much fun to learn about. To overcome this, we aimed to create a personal and relatable scenario that would empower Sky employees with practical tools and knowledge.

Solution

An escape room that popped up, over night, in Sky head office.

Teams were tasked with shutting down the illegal streams, by finding special codes hidden throughout the living room.

Impact

The escape room was reported to be fun yet challenging with over half the participants successfully completing the challenge and shutting the streams.

100% of participants agreed that they now felt more confident discussing piracy with friends and family.

I art directed and designed the core visual identity for a fun and addictive escape room that popped up, over night, in Sky head office.

Visual identity

The visual identity design drew inspiration from brutalist web design, conveying the notion that hackers were behind the creation of the illegal streams.

This style distinctly contrasts with Sky's typical branding for similar events. This approach adds attention and intrigue, encouraging teams to participate.

Final escape room
We transformed the interior walls by printing them with images, adding photo frames and skirting boards to create an authentically homely ambiance. The wider team also curated the internal furniture and ornaments, completing the inviting atmosphere.

Floor plan
I collaborated with the producer to design the core structure of the escape room. Their expertise in creating similar setups emphasized the importance of providing ample space for participants to queue before entering the room and ensuring a safe exit. We also introduced a briefing screen to engage waiting participants while the production team prepared the room for the next team after completion.

Engagement
Over 80 employees took part sharing their experience on social media. The escape room was reported to be fun yet challenging with over half the participants successfully completing the challenge and shutting the streams.

100% of participants agreed that they now felt more confident discussing piracy with friends and family.
