Project summary
Problem
For IBM’s Innovation Evening in London, the marketing team requested a PDF map to help visitors navigate between pedestals showcasing different IBM technologies. The aim was to reduce paper waste.
Process
I felt a PDF would be clunky on mobile and saw an opportunity to build something better. After reviewing the team's needs, I partnered with a developer to bring an interactive map to life.
After the event, the innovation centre team saw the map and wanted to reuse it. I ran a mini discovery workshop with them and event organisers to understand long-term needs.
Solution
An interactive map replaced the PDF, using the existing Excel sheet as a CSV data source. LinkedIn links let visitors connect with pedestal reps instantly.
In a second sprint, we turned the CSV data source into a reusable events management system.
Impact
Removed the need for printed maps, saving 500 sheets per large event
Reduced attendee navigation time by 30%
Cut event setup time for event managers by half
Enabled over 100 direct LinkedIn connections between visitors and pedestal reps, based on follow-up reports from the team.
My role
I worked closely with a developer, event organisers, and key stakeholders to shape the solution, conduct user interviews and testing, and evolve the tool into a reusable event management system.
