scalable event infrastructure
When IBM requested a static PDF to replace printed event maps, I saw an opportunity to design a more useful and scalable service. I created a mobile-first interactive map and reusable event management system that improved visitor navigation, reduced administrative effort, and enabled over 100 LinkedIn connections at the first event.

Challenge
For IBM's Innovation Evening in London, the marketing team wanted a digital PDF map to reduce paper waste and help visitors navigate technology pedestals. However, a static PDF introduces severe friction on mobile devices. Furthermore, behind the scenes, event managers were losing valuable time manually rebuilding pedestal data from scratch for every single event.
Process
Operating in rapid sprints, I acted as a strategic design partner. I pushed back on the PDF assumption, partnering closely with a developer to ship a functional interactive map. I then facilitated mini discovery workshops with event managers to map their 'As-Is' workflow, transforming a one-off request into a scalable, repeatable system.
Solution
I designed a mobile-optimised, interactive map featuring list and map toggles, categorised filtering, and integrated LinkedIn networking. For the event staff, I designed a reusable events management system that centralised pedestal data, cutting setup time in half by establishing a predictable, transparent workflow.
Impact
The pilot successfully saved 500 printed sheets per large event and secured an "excellent" SUS usability score of 82. Beyond navigation, the tool empowered human connection, generating over 100 direct LinkedIn connections at the first event and becoming the standard infrastructure for the innovation centre.
